Heaven Burns Red (“Hebban”) is a smartphone RPG co-developed by Key and Wright Flyer Studios and distributed in English-speaking countries in partnership with Yostar. The scenario of this title is written by Asae, who has worked on “AIR”, “CLANNAD”, “Little Busters! and other works, and features a heart-stirring storyline and strategic command battles.

In Chapter 1, the main character Tsukika Kayamori, a member of “Unit 31A,” is involved in a battle against a mysterious life form called “Cancer.

The Cancer is pushing humanity to the brink of extinction, and the entire world and Japan are being affected. The story is about the development of the only weapon that can kill Cancer.

Tsukika, who used to be in a band, was recruited by the Seraph Corps and decided to join the Seraph Corps. Through battles on the battlefield, she and her unique friends go through enlistment training and actual combat in preparation for the battles to come…

The unit number has a regularity: the front of the alphabet represents the generation, and the alphabet usually has no meaning, but only “A” is a title given only to those troops of that generation who fight on the front lines of cleaning, called the “cut-throat squadron”.

During training, 31C was challenged by 31A to a game of 31A, and the two units began to compete against each other for the title of “31A.

In the early part of the story, the interaction with fellow troops and daily life unfolds, alternating between combat and an emotional storyline.

In Hebban, many units and characters appear, but only those who are key parts of the game are explained in this article.

Kayamori Tsukiuta (CV: Kusunoki Tomori VO: XAI)

Former guitarist and vocalist of the legendary rock band “She is Legend. She also writes lyrics and composes music, and her major debut album won all the newcomer awards that year. He has been called a “genius” ever since. He loves music so much that he formed the new “She is Legend” with the six members of 31A. She is a brainy, friendly, and sometimes gutsy person.

Yuki Izumi (CV: Ryoko Maekawa)

A genius hacker who belonged to the hacker group “Orchid” and has a track record of preventing World War III. She is the only person with common sense among the 31As, which are all full of idiots, and takes on the role of a comedian. He is a fan of the legendary band “She is Legend,” of which Kayamori was a member. After joining the seraph unit, she is pushed around by Kayamori, but also provides him with friendly support.

Megumi Aikawa (CV: Anju Inami)

A winsome psychic girl from the Kansai region. She can handle psychic powers, but her power is unknown. In fact, she has not been particularly useful since joining the Seraph Corps. However, she believes that she is the savior who will save the world. She has a sense of rivalry with Kayamori, who was a much admired genius of her generation.

Tsukasa Tojo (CV: Yurina Amami)

A self-proclaimed elite secret agent with a perfect appearance. However, she is a clumsy secret agent on the inside. However, he only knows a lot of useless information. She takes pleasure in teaching the secret of beautiful skin to Karen Asakura, who is also a 31A student.

Karen Asakura (CV: Yu Serizawa, VO: Konomi Suzuki)

A gamer girl who excels at FPS. Her personality is as cute as her appearance. She prefers junk food that she can eat with one hand for the reason that it keeps her playing games. She is one of the twin vocalists in the new “She is Legend. But her backstage personality is a horrible murderer.

Tama Kunimi (CV: Aoi Koga)

With an appearance like this, she is the former captain of a battleship. He was defeated in the Sea of Okhotsk. He is a natural idiot, but he is unaware of it. She adores Megumi Aikawa, also a 31A, who is always there to protect her. She feels complex about her short stature.

31C (self-proclaimed mad scientist unit aiming for world domination)

Yamawaki Bon Ivar (CV: Ayaka Sengoku)

A mad scientist who plans to take over the world together with Bungo. However, he calls himself a mad scientist.

He is the head of 31C and a classmate of Kayamori and the others, and since units bearing the letter “A” are treated as the elite of their generation, he challenges Kayamori and the others to take away the letter “A.” He is overbearing, hot-tempered, and has a strong sense of humor. She is overbearing and hot-tempered, but in reality, she is a kind and gentle girl who loves her friends.

Sakuraba Seira (CV: Tazawa Maazumi)

A fortune teller who uses astrology to see the future. She often recommends love fortune-telling. She cannot do anything without her fortune-telling tool, a crystal. Her calm demeanor and words have a mysterious power of persuasion. His fortune-telling accuracy rate is 53%.

Amane Miko (CV: Tamako Miyazaki)

In her pursuit of immortality, she has created various medicines. The various medicines she has created in the process have cured illnesses and contributed to the world. She calls herself a rare magician. Wearing a draped robe, she looks like a Lolita, but she never admits it.

Yayoi Bungo (CV: Koika Shirohana)

A servant of mad scientist Yamawaki, a girl who plans to take over the world together.

She is small and has a low mental age, but her athletic ability is outstanding. She can even compete with Cancer. She ends with the word “gesu. Although she spouts belligerent lines, for some reason she is a soothing character that induces alpha waves.

Kanzaki Adelheid (CV: Nene Hieda)

A show-offy, non-ninja ninja from Germany. He is a self-taught ninja with a strong yearning to be a ninja, and has mastered ninjutsu. She demonstrates her ninjutsu throughout the base. When he is the center of attention for more than a certain period of time, his language center becomes disorganized and he starts to get excited.

Mari Satsuki (CV: Yume Miyamoto)

Mari Sazuki is a super sales clerk who works in all the stores on the base. She is not alone, but there may be more than one of them. She is so strong that one might think there is more than one of them. She is also strong in battle. She is a super shopkeeper

Nanami Nanase is an officer girl who becomes the caretaker of Kayamori and his group.

She looks young, but is much older than Kayamori and his team.

She assists Tezuka as an operational strategist. Tezuka admires her analytical skills and respects her comments.

She is good at performing her duties without hesitation.

Makiko Asami (CV: Miharu Hanai)

Makiko Asami is an instructor who teaches classroom lectures to Kayamori and her colleagues.

Like Tezuka, she is a former seraph member who became an instructor due to war injuries.

She has a mischievous side that gets out of control when she drinks.

1) The immersion of the story is amazing!

Hebban is attractive for its “Key-like tear-jerking story” and “realistic character portrayal.

In addition, the gradual deepening of the bonds with the friends will surely lead you into the depth of the worldview as you learn about the changes in the characters’ feelings and past.

(2) Strategic nature of the battle system

Combat is a turn-based command battle in which skill combinations and the use of buffs and debuffs are important. Especially in boss battles, you will have a hard time if you don’t have a good strategy, and you can enjoy challenging battles.

3) The music is on another level.

The theme song and BGM by Jun Asae are divine! The BGM during battle scenes is a particularly exciting point, and I felt that the immersive feeling is further enhanced by the power of the music.

The voice actors from “Angelbeats,” one of Damae’s representative works, can sing and dance, but in order to make the animation more dynamic, the CV and VO were separated so that the live scenes could have more impact.

The name of the unit “31A” may have the meaning of “the last hope (last = 31)”? I personally think that it is.

The first chapter of “Hebban” is an introduction to a masterpiece that combines an inspiring story with strategic battles. As the story depicts Tsukika’s growth and her bond with her friends, there are many moments when the player is also made to think about the meaning of life.
